FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUNTINGTON BEACH FAMILIES INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN '100
YEARS/100 FAMILIES'
In a nod
to the city's Centennial celebration, the
Huntington Beach Downtown Business
Improvement District will stage a very
special event during the month of February.
Each
Tuesday of the month, Huntington Beach
families are invited to be interviewed for
'100 Years/100 Families,' a celebration of
who we are after 100 years of incorporation.
'We wanted
to do something special to commemorate the
city's 100th birthday, and the
idea of celebrating the families of this
city fit perfectly with the goals of our
weekly 'Surf City Nights,' said BID
executive director, Connie Pedenko. 'I'm
excited to see the picture that emerges of
who we are today.'
Surf City
residents will be interviewed by local
columnists and writers, and have their
photos taken. The 100 stories that best
reflect the Huntington Beach families of
2009 will then be selected by a panel of
judges and featured on websites and printed
publications.
'We know
there are various combinations that make up
the Huntington Beach family, and we hope
everyone - traditional and non-traditional,
blended, multi-generational ' all families
of every shape, size, color and creed, will
come tell us their stories and be a part of
this very special celebration,' added
Pedenko.
'100
Years/100 Families' will be a part of the
weekly 'Surf City Nights,' hosted by the
Downtown Business
Improvement District, from 5:00 ' 9:00 each
Tuesday night in February.
Residents
will be interviewed in the order of their
arrival at the staging area in the third
block of Main Street, near 'Smokin' Mo's'
and 'Avila's El Ranchito' restaurants.
All
participants must sign a waiver for use of
their photos and stories and minors must be
accompanies by parents or legal guardians.
'Surf City
Nights' is held every Tuesday evening of the
year and features a farmer's market, special
rides and attractions for the kids, and
ongoing entertainment along Main Street.
