Pacific Coast Hotdog in downtown Huntington Beach offers casual dining from Huntington Beach owner Scott Brown who started his business in Chapman Avenue in Orange. The PCH Dog is modeled after chili dogs served at Cupid's in San Fernando Valley and Pink's Famous Chili Dogs in Hollywood. Obtaining the chili recipe from the owner of Pink's, Browning uses Hoffy brand hot dogs for the proper snap. Selling mostly PCH dogs, other options include Fire Dog, New York Dog, Sauerkraut Dog, Corn Dog, Chicago Dog, Chili Cheese Fries and Chili. Shakes, floats, soft drinks and ice cream are offered on a menus stationed on mustard and ketchup colored surfboards on the wall above the ordering counter. Testimony from diners at the hot dog shop that seats 12 people, is thumbs up. Affordable food that tastes good for under $5 at the beach can't be beat! Prices range from approx. $1.50 for a corn dog or chili to $3 for a deluxe hot dog with fixings. There's a combo that includes fries and a coke for around $6. While seating is limited, you usually can find a spot to dine or walk outside to additional tables. Some just plop down in the bathing suits on the curb outside the shop and eat their food on the sidewalk.

The test: We brought in our hotdog experts who routinely eat hotdogs. With similar prices, we wanted to compare the chili dog, corn dog and regular hot dog to Wienerschnitzel. In blind taste tests, one subject preferred Wienerschnitzel and three preferred PCH's Pacific Coast Hotdogs. For another hotdog option, take a turn around the bend of PCH at Main Street.
