SUNSET PHOTO GALLERY &
PIER
GALLERY The picture of a man standing on the Huntington City
Beach south of the Huntington Beach Pier shows the
beaming sun hidden, but not forgotten as its obscured
position behind Ruby's Diner makes for a brilliant
display of color. It's the perfect time of day to take
sunset photos. Notice the details such as the long
shadows cast onto the Pacific Ocean from the pier
pilings. At this time of day and position of the sunset
as it seems to descend very quickly into the ocean, you
have to move back and forth--north to south, and move
toward the water line and back, till you get just the
right position where you aren't blinded by the sun and
your camera can capture the strong silhouettes,
providing amazing pictures and great souvenirs of
Huntington Beach.
The Huntington Beach Pier is the
city's main icon, and probably the most photographed
item in town (though the owner of Rocky Mountain
Chocolate on Main Streets swears that his big, stuffed
bear is the most photographed.) The sunsets are always
different, the colors seldom the same, and if you do it
right and pay attention (if you are blinded by the sun,
don't take the photo and don't look into the sun
directly or it will ruin your eyes,) then you'll get
award winning photos every time you visit the beach and
take sunset pictures at the Huntington Beach Pier. Have
fun!
Sunsets during the Huntington Beach summer
range from 7 to 8 p.m. In October before Daylight Savings
Time, the sunsets occur at around 6 p.m. There's a good 20
minute window of opportunity to take photos before the sun
is out of view. Even after it has disappeared, the sky can
put on a show of colors. And finally, if you stay longer,
the lights of the pier come on and believe it or not, you
can still get some awesome photos from the south side of the
pier.
