While people over the age of 16 must purchase
a fishing license to fish at Huntington City Beach, dogs fish
free. You'll see people surfing, and sometimes you'll see them
cast a line at this popular beach on the north side of the city
at the perimeter of the Bolsa Chica wetlands. But when dogs take
to the water to play, you never know what they may catch.
Usually it's a ball or some other manufactured toy. But the more
skillful and enterprising pets manage to find catch to feed
their owners. If you don't have a fishing license, you aren't
allowed to take fish from the beach, even if your dog catches
them in his or her mouth. Dogs can only fish free at Dog Beach,
but people can fish free at public piers, including one to the
south, Huntington Beach Pier, and one to the north, Seal Beach
Pier.
Dog Beach is located on Pacific Coast Highway
between Goldenwest Street and Seapoint. Metered parking runs
parallel to Pacific Coast Highway. If you don't see a parking
spot, drive south on Pacific Coast Highway and try your luck at
the metered Coast Highway parking beginning around 22nd Street.
You'll have to walk with your pet a short distance to Dog Beach,
but it is a pleasant stroll with pavement and plenty of grass
lawn for pets to sniff. |
