One night per year everyone has
opportunity to dress in their favorite garb or gear, wear
costumes and makeup to disguise themselves, and head outside so
everyone can see their great outfits and compare. One night each
year Main Street in Huntington Beach closes the street from
Pacific Coast Highway to Orange Ave. for a party like no other.
From 5 to 8:30 p.m. the night is for kids and its their
opportunity to go with parents for trick or treating, games,
booths, food, bounce houses, and even a costume contest.
Originally launched by Rocky Mountain Chocolate owner Steve
Daniel, the guy is truly a kid at heart. He and the other
merchants pitch in to make a fun place and event that children
and their parents can really enjoy. Huntington Beach October
weather seen in the photo usually is in the 60s or 70s--perfect
for sandals, short sleeves, and costumes that can be seen. You
don't normally require a coat in HB.
Trick or Treat on Main Street usually includes a petting zoo
with camels, birds, llamas and goats, pony rides, bounce houses,
Fire Engines, City booths with games, and candy handed out by
the merchants. How much candy is given out during the trick or
treat event' A few thousand pounds, according to one estimate.
After 9 p.m. the kids scurry home and the adults take center
stage, enjoying parties and costume contests at nearly every
restaurant and bar in downtown HB. The costumes get a bit sexier
than women's normal nightclub attire, and the beach becomes one
of the hottest places to socialize, dance, consume beverage, and
eat on the warm October night.
