Huntington Beach's Newest Beach
is a few yards long. They call
it a pocket beach, but we call
it "Yards". Huntington Harbour
Bay Club, 4121 Warner Avenue,
Huntington Beach, CA. You've
heard of the famous beaches of
Huntington Beach that stretch
for miles seeimingly in every
direction. Surf girls and guys
have ridden their waves,
swimmers and sunbathers have
lazed upon their sun-drenched
shores, and toddlers have taken
their initiation steps into the
cool Pacific waters there. But
there's one small piece of beach
that doesnt' have any of that
going on. It's an inlet to the
sea next to Huntington Harbour
Yacht Club off Warner Avenue.
It's a few yards wide. We call
it "Yards".
It was officially dedicated for public use on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
On hand to officiate was Orange County Coastkeeper,
the assigned guardian of the is
fantastic launch point for stand
up paddlers and kayakers.
In 2009, the State Coastal Conservancy contacted Coastkeeper about a public access easement at the Huntington Harbour Bay Club. Without anyone to manage the area, it could have been lost to private development in December of 2009. Coastkeeper officially took over this public access easement in November, 2009, and has worked to guarantee that the area remains open and accessible to the public.
Prior to the expansion of the marina, decades ago, the beach at the Huntington Harbour Bay Club was commonly and historically used as a baby beach
for parents with little kids. It included sunbathing and sabot (small sailboat) launching.
Beach users will get find 10 designated free parking spots
but our best bet is that those
spots will go fast, especially
during the summer days.
