La Mamma
Randazzo Cucina
in Surf City is
closed!
Huntington Beach, Calif.--Italy
may be 6,000
miles away, but
the passion for
its cuisine and
culture are
right at your
door in Surf
City. Begin your
Italian journey
by visiting
Randazzo Cucina.
Under new
ownership, the
restaurant
located just a
few blocks from
the beach (at a
shopping center
on Beach Blvd. &
Atlanta) has
recruited
esteemed Chef
Julio Cesar,
introduced
authentic
Sicilian recipes
from Randazzo,
Italy, and
brings you the
Randazzo family,
itself, whose
roots are in the
Sicilian
countryside
where family &
food mean
everything.
When Claudio
Martinez
Randazzo
recently found a
HB restaurant
for sale on
Craig's List, he
called and
instantly loved
its name,
Randazzo. 'When
I found that
out, it was a
message that
said it was
meant to be,'
said the new
owner of the
23-year-old
eatery.
Talk about
perfect fit: His
mom, Elsa
Randazzo, and
grandmother,
Giuseppa
Randazzo were
amazing cooks
from Randazzo,
Sicily. So he
put a new spin
on the name by
calling it 'La
Mamma Randazzo
Cucina.'
The Randazzo
family recipes
from Sicily are
artfully
prepared in the
lively
restaurant with
with black &
white checkered
flooring and
original artwork
featuring
classic Italian
scenes painted
by famed local
artist Bill
Anderson.
Giuseppa's
favorites such
as Polpete e
Pasta, delicious
homemade
meatballs in red
sauce with
fettuccini or
optional angel
hair or
pappardelle, are
made with the
finest beef, and
standout pasta
that is
hand-made.
Be sure to
try her special
Lentil Soup,
made up of
lentils, diced
potatoes,
Italian Sausage,
diced pork and
meat chunks in
broth. Yummy!
The Baby
Green Salad is
very tasty, and
all salads
contain
exceptional
greens,
dressings made
fresh with
herbs, and
ingredients
selected
seasonally for
optimum flavor.
Claudio's
mom's recipes
include Risotto
Salcicces
(Italian sausage
in an Italian
wine red sauce
with Arborio
rice risotto)
and Milanessa
(lightly breaded
veal fried in
canola oil,
served with your
choice of pasta,
fries or baby
greens).
In addition
to dinner
dishes, great
lunch choices
such as Linguini
Cavallino,
Gnocchi Della
Sera and Pollo
Conlimone, will
have you
speaking Italian
in no time at
all. Randazzo
features
sandwiches, like
Argentinean
Famous 'Lomito'
(thinly sliced,
tenderized Filet
Mignon topped
with ham, egg,
tomato, lettuce,
melted cheese
and mayonnaise
on an artisan
toasted bun) and
Homemade Tri Tip
(tender slices
with baby
greens, tomatoes
and mayonnaise
on a toasted
baguette, served
with auju sauce
or homemade
chimichurri).
You also can
order a variety
of pizzas (i.e.,
Margarita, Pollo
Rustica and
Veggie Amore),
Empanadas
(Argentinean
turnovers filled
with a homemade
recipe),
Espresso and
there's even a
Children's Menu
with pasta and
meatball, small
pizza or
homemade
macaroni and
cheese.
The friendly
atmosphere makes
it a fun place
to dine in but
you also can
take it out or
have it
delivered (free
within a 5 mile
radius and a $15
minimum.)
