Can You Feel the Beat, Can You Hear the Music'

Huntington Beach has a thriving music scene that is often overlooked. Every night of the week there is music happening somewhere in the city and if trends persist, the music will only grow as time passes.

This weekend is exceptional in that thousands of visitors will come to HB to listen to the BBJazz Festival. They always like what they see in the serene, shaded Central Park setting. In addition to the annual special event, however, there are ample free and small cover fee music listening opportunities. Here is'an example of what you can look forward to on Saturday nights in the city. The music serving bars and restaurants are primarily within two blocks of Pacific Coast Highway between Main Street and Anderson Street, though you may have to drive to other locations to take it all in. Places such as Fitzgeralds, Tap House, Slater 50/50, Harveys Steakhouse, Johnny's Saloon, Bella Terra mall and Marlin Bar serve up regular offerings of local bands, as well.

This Saturday night some highlights include The Good Foot (soul & funk,) long-time fave Midlife Crisis (60s & 70s) at Taco Surf, Cat Reed & Back Alley (blues) at Don the Beachcomber, an HB on-the-rise band, Sunset Slackers at Nadine's Irish Mist, Kenny Hale at Perqs - the city's only authentic bar, Jim Quealey - the house musician at Captain Jack's, and assorted unannounced bands at Pelican Isle, Hurricane's and many more dining and entertainment spots. If you love music, HB offers variety of sounds. The music is mostly rock, pop, Irish, folk, hits, indie and other options if you shop around to see who's performing.
