Huntington Beach Champion for Causes, Dale Dunn, Passes Away
One of Huntington Beach's all time great guys--the man who always had a smile and kind word to say--passed away today. After Dunn retired in Huntington Beach several decades ago he turned his retirement into a full time volunteer career. He wasn't paid for all his work. I knew Dale Dunn through his volunteerism at the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau, Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce, Duck-a-thon, HB Community Clinic, Rotary and Council on Aging. He had a beautiful wife by his side, Ellen, who died of cancer several years ago. The two were quite an amazing couple, and Ellen, who worked part time at the City of Huntington Beach, would smile when her husband asked for a hug from those joining in at events. 'Dale actually turned Surf City into a huggable community.
When Huntington Beach Centennial occurred in 2009, Dunn presented a commemorative coin at the City Council meeting, made by the HB Rotary Club. He was part of the Rotary team that
purchased an inflatable band shell cover for Central Park summer Concerts in the Park . He said he wanted the band to be covered so they could play their best. 'To list all of Dale Dunn's volunteer accomplishments would be a near impossible task, as he was always donating his time to those in need. 'He never asked for or sought recognition in return. He was an angel on Earth.
