Huntington Beach Downtown BID
Presents
Father's Day Weekend Chili At The
Beach
Benefiting CHOC
Huntington Beach, 05/29/09 '
Surf's Up in
Huntington Beach, Surf City, USA! Come join us on Father's Day
Weekend June 20th ' 21st for the Second
Annual 'Chili At The Beach' family fun event. Activities will
include a Chili Cook-off (Saturday only), Charity Raffle with
prizes galore, (benefiting CHOC), a Business Expo, a Magician,
Special Attractions, Children's Activities, Street Performers,
Father's Day specials, Auto and Motorcycle exhibits, the Surf
City Art Show along with an Interactive Surf City Centennial
Birthday Card, and much more!
A portion of
the event proceeds will benefit Children's Hospital of Orange
County (CHOC). "It is an honor to contribute to CHOC through
the Chili at the Beach event. Encouraging families to come
downtown on Father's Day weekend to enjoy the variety of
activities in the fresh air and sunshine at the beach is key to
having a successful downtown environment. I would like to thank
all the BID Stakeholders that have shared their time and talent
to make sure that this special weekend could take place," said
Connie Pedenko, Executive Director / Consultant for BID.
The event
will begin at 11AM both days, and close at 7PM on Saturday and
close at 4PM on Sunday. Entry to the event is free, while a
ticket that allows the buyer to sample and judge all the 17
varieties of chili on Saturday costs $15. There will also be
raffle tickets on sale.
The first
three blocks of Main Street will be closed to traffic for the
two-day event for the business exhibits, food, and entertainers.
There will be children's activities including inflatables, a
climbing wall, face painting, jousting displays, and more! Go
to the fountain at the second block for the Surf City Art Show
and the Interactive Surf City Centennial Birthday Card. Many
local artists will display surf-themed media, and everyone is
invited to put their mark on the huge wooden 'birthday card'
with stickers, permanent markers, scrapbook art, photos, or
whatever. Be creative, and let's make this card something we
will want to have on display for the rest of the year.
On Saturday,
the 'Golden West Pops' (a 40-piece band) will start off the day
at 11 AM. From Noon to 7PM (or when the chili runs out!), the
seventeen (17) participants donating ten gallons of chili to the
cook-off, will be competing in several categories: 'Best
Tasting Overall', 'Most Creative Name of Chili' and 'Most
Enthusiastic Booth'. Purchase of a ticket provides the buyer
with a ballot to rate each chili. When the ballots are in, all
ballots where the judge (that's you!) has tasted every
chili will be tallied within each category.
Father's Day
Sunday features many specials just for Dad at businesses
downtown. The day starts at 11AM with 'The Nocturnes', who are
the official house band of KDOC TV. At 1:30, the Surrealist
Magician Loren Michael Zwick will be performing his newest
illusion at the 'Threedom Days' event on the corner of Walnut &
Main. Loren will transform a motorcycle from Harley-Davidson
Westminster into a custom Trike by Champion Trikes, right in
front of the audience!
Michael
Moroneso, the Chair for the BID Ambassadors, Chili at the Beach
Event Task Force Leader, and Manger of Surf City Harley-Davidson
on Main Street said of the event, "I would like to thank
Harley-Davidson of Westminster for allowing me to take the time
to lead this event. It is a privilege to work with CHOC and the
BID to serve the community and help bring success to downtown
Surf City USA."
