Edward Scissorhands and the Big Bad Wolf
from the Little Red Riding Hood tale at Main Street
Trick or Treat in Huntington Beach
Walking down the middle of
Main Street in downtown Huntington Beach on Halloween
night, three characters from movies and fiction
approach. It's Edward Scissorhands, the Big Bad Wolf
from Little Red Riding Hood wearing grandmother's robe
and a figure of black with no face, no hands appearing.
This special night transforms the City of Huntington
Beach into a wonderland of make believe. The Hollywood
influence of the movie industry is felt throughout
California and in Surf City where actors live. Adults
embrace opportunities to masquerade themselves in
costumes adapted from plays, movies, fables and ordinary
life events. The Halloween Night began over a
decade ago as a safe, fun place for kids to
trick-or-treat. Adults that frequent downtown
restaurants, pubs and clubs find this night a special
treat, as well. With Main Street closed for several
hours, it gives them a chance to parade along the
boulevard and look at other costumes.
Huntington Beach,
California or Surf City Main Street has closed
around 4 p.m. on October 31 to make way for the annual
Halloween Celebration. Downtown merchants hand out candy
to trick or treat youth from 6 to 8:30 p.m. when the
street is designated a children's fun zone. Moon
bounces, pony rides, petting zoo, balloons and a costume
contest all make this a night to remember. And it's
totally free. See the events calendar for details. |
