Main Street Holiday Celebration
The annual Main Street
Holiday Celebration, now enjoying its tenth anniversary, will be held in
downtown Huntington Beach on Sunday.
Beginning at 3 p.m., local restaurants will open their doors for "A Taste of
Main Street," featuring specialty soups, chowders and desserts, as well as a
raffle for opportunity prizes. A community parade begins at 4:30 p.m. on
Main Street at Orange Street and heads toward the Huntington Beach Pier. The
parade stars Surf City Santa Claus and his wife, Mrs. Claus; HB's Mayor, Miss Huntington Beach and her court; cars from the Southern
California Woodie Club; Brownies, Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Troops;
Polynesian dancers; and a group of Bernese Mountain dogs are
part of the merriment in the truly old-fashioned home town
event. "Light a Light of Love," the pier lighting ceremony
at 4:45 p.m. followed by the
band performing at Pier Plaza, then Orange County Song and Dance Company. At
6 p.m., the Huntington Beach Pier and Main Street will light up with flick
of a switch, turning on illuminated snowflakes sponsored by local merchants
and businesses. Proceeds will benefit the CSP Huntington Beach Youth
Shelter. |
